Making Hell Back Up

“I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18

The church is called to manifest the power of God’s kingdom. Jesus is on the offensive, building His church and advancing the kingdom. Jesus is not trying to stop the forces of hell; hell is trying to stop Him. For this purpose was the Son of God manifest – to destroy the works of the evil one. In other words, Jesus came to earth to get hell out of our world.
So the test of our power, both individually and corporately as the Body of Christ, is whether hell backs up when we show up. If the works of the evil one are not being destroyed, then we are not allowing Christ to build His Church. Instead, we are building our church using Christ’s name and God’s Word declares that we are laboring in vain.
Moses wrote that the Lord is a man of war. There is a confrontational side to God’s nature that is imparted to His servants by the Holy Spirit. Yes, many things will transpire without a human touch but there are other things that the Body of Christ is called to fulfill, because scripture proclaims we are God’s bale-ax and weapons of war. And we are to occupy until Jesus comes.

Prayer: Dear God, help me not to forget that You empower me to be able to do all things through Jesus. Build and then enter Your house, Lord Jesus. Holy Spirit, displace the powers of darkness over our cities. In Jesus’ name, amen.
